Girls who have demonstrated the skills and commitment required for competitive gymnastics are invited to participate on the team. Gymnastics is a sport that requires year around practice, unlike most youth sports where you only commit to a few months of practice and competition.
The competitive season starts in October and runs through March. USA Gymnastics has developed specific routines that the girls learn, starting in the recreational classes. During the competitive season the girls work on perfecting the required routine, and as their skills improve they start to spend time on skills for the next level.
Zia Gymnastics has a long tradition of successful competitive teams. In 2011 the Level 3 Team won the State Championship, with Angelina and Raelyn both winning the All-Around Championship in their respective age groups. Event winners at Level 3 include Nicole on vault, Serena on vault and balance beam, Ella on bars, Angelina on vault, beam and floor, and Raelyn on all 4 events.
At level 4 Karis finished 2nd in All-Around competition, winning vault. Jade was 3rd All-Around.
At level 5 Kianah finished 2nd in All-Around competition, winning vault and floor.
At level 6 Ryann was the vault champion.
All three level 8 team members qualified for Regional competition. Courtney and Hayley won floor exercise in their respective age groups and Lindsay was 2nd in All Around competition.
